UNIFORM | Vintage L.L. Bean Goose Down Vest

A preppy staple of 1980s fashion, the L.L. Bean Goose Down Vest (available on eBay for $20 and up) has been on my radar ever since I saw Marty McFly wear one accidentally to the year 1955. Yesterday I finally snagged my own at Individual Medley in Atwater Village, so now I'm ready to kick Biff's ass.

I still wear my college 1978 North Face down vest . Dark Blue with camel lining. Western brass snapped breast pockets. What I love most.....there it is pre North Face tramp stamp ha!

I have the same one. Bought at the North Face store in Palo Alto, CA. Around 77 or 78

How does it fit? I'm wondering what size to order on eBay?

I'm 5'7" and the men's small fits me lengthwise, a bit boxy in the shoulders, but if you're wearing it over a sweater, etc., it's not a bad fit.

I definitely had one of those in college (not the 1980s, to clarify, more like the 2000s). I still miss that vest, especially now that I've moved to Idaho where it would be incredibly useful. Sigh.

Ohh that Bean vest is spectacular. I have a J Crew version that looks similar but doesn't have the vintage allure of the Bean.

Is/was in old enough to be made in the usa still?

Haha I could see you with Marty McFly.
